Fishing Tackle Boxes

Tackle boxes are a very underrated piece of kit in the fishing arsenal. Apart from keeping sharp hooks clear of bare feet and valuable lures from the elements they also make gear changes quicker.

Apart from keeping sharp hooks clear of bare feet and valuable lures from the elements they also make gear changes quicker.

While I'm not going to belittle the good old white bucket a well layed out tacklebox can be worth
its weight in gold when the fish are on. No more worries about the slicing fingers on unsheathed
knives or taking a treble in the finger as you shuffle around trying to find that particular piece
of equipment you need.

While I think some guys have gone overboard carrying around only a little less than most well decked out tackle shops do there is good reason to carry at least quantity of boxed tackle. Lures protected from the elements will save you money in the long run with very few unused hooks needing replacing because they copped a few splashes of slat water. Those same orderly lures will have your first choice sitting right there for you to grab and rig up in record time to get to the fish as they bust up in font of you.

The exact size sinkers, swivels and hooks will be sitting there waiting or their blatant absence
will be a reminder for you to replace them before your next trip. A slightly over sized tackle box
can also contain a few other goodies that will have others asking ..... what the?

Red wire, piece of foam, clear plastic tubing, glow beads, glitter and super glue carefully tucked
away in the lower compartments will be secreted away till those rare occasions when they are needed and nothing else will do the job. These are the little bits and pieces that would otherwise be lost or blown away unable to be used when that time came that they could have made the impossible possible.

Hard plastic boxes, soft roll up sleeves, back packs and various other incarnations all do a great
job of holding tackle together and no one really outperforms any other for particular needs. Loose
soft plastics can kept in their original packet and grouped by size in soft rollups. Hard bodied and
metal lures can be kept safely with their super sharp hooks secured well clear of soft skin and
flesh.

Spare leader material, wire traces, hook disgorgers honing stones and any other thing that would
normally be rolling around in the boat or car can be held neatly in a tackle box.

Avoiding a trip to the doctor

Fishing hooks and treble hooks are very sharp and purpose to penetrate and firmly embed themselves in fishes mouths. They are also excellent at penetrating and embedding themsleves in human flesh. The use of tackle boxes to contain loose gear and small pieces of foam or rubber blocks to cover trebles is recommended. Simple precautions can stop a great fishing trip turning sour becasue of a trip to the doctor.

Whacky Pieces of Fishing Tackle

Used match sticks, sugar cubes, balloons, wire, ice cubes and a huge range of other everyday objects have at times been used in place of more "normal" fishing tackle. Sacrificial weight, streamlining, securing, covering, shock absorbing there are so many things that can be done by things you don't usually see in a tackle box. Keep an open mind, you might be amazed at what you come up with that makes you a better fisherman.

Sunlight Damages fishing Equipment

Never store fishing gear out side. Storing tackle outside will almost certainly impact the asthetics
of your gear and probably permanantly damage more susceptable equipment such as line. Fishing rods left in the sun in closed vehicles have melted the rods and left ugly bends in them which are
potential weak spots.
