Moreton Bay Fishing Classic

Moreton Bay Fishing Classic

Strap yourself in people the Moreton Bay Fishing Classic is returning for its second year (August 6th to August 11th 2010) and to say it is going to be bigger and better is an understatement. Anyone attending last years inaugural event would have witnessed the silky smooth manner in which the event progressed last year and it is sure to be the same again this year. This is because this the same organising crew that ran the incredible Straddie Classic for all those years till its unfortunate demise.

Speaking of the Straddie Classic, those diehard beach fishermen among us who moaned about having to come back to the mainland for the weigh ins have a very pleasant surprise in store. This year there will be a satellite weigh in facility set up at the Little Ship Club at One Mile on North Stradbroke Island. This will include a live televised link to the MBTBC so we don't miss out on any of the night time proceedings. Then on the final night we can jump onto the Calypso Flyer, a power catamaran for a direct trip to the MBTBC and returning at mates rates for the big draw.

Again there will be eligible species of fish suited to everyone's fishing style, be it deep sea, beach, river, bay or shore in one of the widest ranging fishing comps in Australia. With boundaries from the Caloundra Bar south to Point Danger and all areas between east I'm sure most people should be able to find a quiet spot to wet a line for the quarry of their choice.

If there is a disappointment at all then it has to be that this year the first prize is not a 4WD. Yes all we get instead is a super sleek Signature 540F which I'm sure just put a smile back on everyone's face, and if it didn't then the fact that 2nd prize is a 3 door Suzuki Grand Vitara 4WD just might. All up over $200 000 in prizes is up for grabs and the nice thing is you don't even have to catch a fish or even pretend you like fishing.

For those with a little bit of gambling nouse, do the sums. $145 entry, 200 grand in prizes, roughly 1000 competitors, this would have to be one of the best raffles you could ever inject your hard earned into.

MBTBC has also made this year much more family orientated with family entry at discounted prices and a big focus on the kids getting involved. Children this time will have the chance of daily prizes and get their name on the junior anglers leader board.

Followers of this event in all of its incarnations will notice a big change in a number of sponsors. VB have been replaced by Carlton Mid, and the Cruise Craft boys have stepped aside leaving another icon in Haines Signature to supply this years boat prize.

So get yourself booked in and start sharpening those hooks as August will be upon before we know it! See you there.
